Minnesota High School Music Listening Contest
The Music Listening Contest State Finals Were A Fantastic Success
Congratulations to all 21 teams who participated Feb. 5 at Augsburg College. The State Champion was Northfield High School, with coach Karen Madsen and team members Sonja Wermager, Hannah France and Nick Benson. Second place went to Buffalo High School, with coach Mike Walsh and team members Jenna Ernst, Abby Huff and Abby Smith. Third place went to Rochester Lourdes, with coach Kent Jurgenson and team members Marissa Johnson, Luke Miksanek and Claire Richer.
Northfield and Buffalo High Schools were tied at 86 after the first five rounds of competition; Rochester Lourdes scored an 83. Northfield High School won the college-round bowl by a score of 45-35.
Celebrating its 23rd year, The Minnesota High School Music Listening Contest is an independent not-for-profit competition providing an ideal opportunity to enrich students' experiences with classical, ethnic, and popular music in a fun and competitive environment. In this statewide contest, students develop skills in active listening and critical analysis by learning to identify composers, cultures, periods and styles.
